We care for children from the South West with life-limiting conditions which mean they will die before adulthood. This is an impossible reality for the families who rely on our services, but with help from supporters raising money we are able to offer a sanctuary, often for many years, from the point of diagnosis through into bereavement, helping to make the most of short and precious lives. We couldn't do this without you.

Please help us spread the word by printing our Skydive poster, found above.

About Us

Children's Hospice South West was founded in 1991 by Eddie and Jill Farwell after they experienced for themselves the urgent need for hospice care for children in the South West. Their two eldest children, Katie and Tom, had life-limiting illnesses and they had to travel over four hours, from their home in North Devon to Helen House in Oxford, then the country's only children's hospice.

In 1995 Little Bridge House in North Devon, the South West's first children's hospice opened its doors to families from across the South West. Little Bridge House very quickly became oversubscribed, which led to the opening of the charity's second hospice Charlton Farm located just outside Bristol, in 2007.

Our Precious Lives Appeal to build our third hospice, in Cornwall, Little Harbour was launched in September 2007. The appeal ended in September 2011 as the £5million target was reached and Little Harbour welcomed its first families through the doors in December 2011.

These three sites complete the chain of children's hospices serving families across the South West; covering Cornwall, Plymouth, Torbay, Devon, Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire

The hospices are not just for end of life care - we provide a range of care and support from the point of diagnosis. As a service, we aim to be flexible in how a family is able to use us, providing care and support that is in accordance with their needs and wishes. Each child and family chooses how they make use of our service, but in general we offer the following:

* Planned respite/short breaks in a 'home-from-home' setting for the child and their family.
* We are available 24 hours a day/365 days a year for telephone advice and support for families between their visits - they can phone at any time, there will always be someone here
* Emergency care for children when they are unwell, symptoms are hard to manage, or when there is a crisis of some sort at home.
* End of life care at the hospice if the family chooses this.
* Emotional and social support is available to all members of the family throughout their use of the hospice, and this extends into bereavement for as long as the family wishes.
* A sibling service dedicated to the special needs of brothers and sisters. This support to the siblings extends into bereavement for as long as the family wishes.
